Botanical description | This species of Boswellia is a small deciduous tree growing to a height of 2–8 m. It is one of the main species from which incense is extracted. The resin is harvested by making a shallow incision in the trunk or branches of the tree and removing a narrow strip of bark. A milky sap flows out, which coagulates on contact with air and is then collected by hand. |
Olfactory description | Its pale to dark yellow essential oil, extracted from the resin, gives off a resinous, minty and woody odor. |
